2010 -- the year of AJ

I made a commitment to myself for 2010:

Write daily.

And dammit if I didn't already mess it up by not starting this blog on January 1st.

Well, better a day late then never.

Yesterday I woke up way too early compared to when I had went to bed, and decided I wanted to see a movie. Anyone who knows me KNOWS that my biggest obsession in life is Award Season (specifically the Oscars) and so no one should be suprised when I am seeing every indie film with any buzz.

So yesterday I decided to trek out alone and catch a 2pm showing of "A Single Man."

As I sat in a sea of homosexuals and elderly heterosexual couples it suddenly struck me:

I am a single man seeing "A Single Man"....alone.

Wow, deep shit. Right?

The film really struck me. If you haven't seen it yet, please do and I will try not to spoil anything.

It was really one of the best representations of a gay love story I have seen on the screen. There is one scene in particular where George (Colin Firth) is on a small couch reading Metamorphosis and his lover of 16 years Jim (Matthew Goode) is reading Breakfast at Tiffany's. Jim looks over at George and says (and I am paraphrasing) "I can't think of anywhere else I would rather be than right here with you."

I don't know where I am going to find it. Chicago. NYC. Who knows?

But I look forward to finding my Jim.
